Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit, either. ~Elizabeth Zimmerman

Knitting Dreams-Run for the Needles... the Winter Twist Collecitve

"Winter is a dreaming season, when we all hibernate a little, cozied together in the chilly months. We let our minds wander over our needles, anticipating the finished project, planning for the next. Knitting itself is often as much about fantasy as it is about stitches. Knitting (and wearing) the perfect sweater can be transporting: we walk taller, we own the world, we dream bigger dreams." The Twist Collective

The new Twist is here! The debut of a new issue of the Twist Collective has become an anticipated event as each new addition brings reasons to Run for the Needles!

In this lovely Winter issue the inspiration is presented in three scenes...

"Anastasia in Repose", imagine a velvet curtained drawing room- conjuring images of taffeta, romance, and the anticipation of an eventful evening. Lacey Opera Gloves, Farinelli by Ysolda Teague

a romantic cobweb shawl, Manderley by Rosemary Hill

and sure to be on my needles-Kelmscott from Carol Sunday.

"A Far Flung Island"-adventure awaits on "The Isles of Shoals" as the setting-shawls,hats, a Gudrun Johnston's "Tanit's Jacket,

Veronik Avery's "Mitaine's and Moufles"

A cabled confection, Lesley from Fiona Ellis.

"A Modern City Market"-The world is yours for the taking a la Mary Tyler Moore in this group entitled "Who can Turn the World on with Her Smile?" shot in Quincy Market-Cathy Carron's Bright Star,

Creative Director Kate Gilbert's innovative Kirigami

.

Twist inspires with not only their beautiful design sense but also the contents they build around the centerpieces of the patterns---There is a feature on choosing soft wool by the wonderful Clara Parkes of Knitter's Review (she has a new book The Knitter's Book of Wool which every knitter she own). Clara also does her Swatch It section exploring the possibilities of one pattern, the little Tanit's jacket I love, by swatching multiple yarn possibilities for it-so much fun! Barbara Parry shows the hard work and beauty of a sheep farm in winter.

The Mason Dixon Girls solve the world in Ask the Problem Ladies-love them! They are as shocked as I am that there are knitters who really can only knit one project at a time! There is an article by Alisdair Post-Quinn on double knitting-amazing technique used in the Four Winds hat.

...and speaking of hats and...I am a sweater knitter but if gifting or smaller projects are what you are in search of Twist answers the call with warm and wonderful ideas perfect for the season ahead... such as Mary Ann Stephens Polar Chullo

Kristi Schueler's Moxie intarsia set

and my favorite Robin Melanson's hat/mitten and neck warmer set Frost Tapestry.

How about a go anywhere fulled bag by Leila Wice

...and imagine a puppy you don't have to walk-

Rover is your new best friend.

One of my favorite things about Twist believe it or not are the ads! Unlike other "magazines" I actually look and click on Twist's ads as they introduce me to fiber sources and designers that aren't necessarily sitting on the shelves of my LYS or featured in other knitting publications such as Sweet Georgia Yarns and Carol Sunday's Sunday Knits .

The one problem with Twist Collective...I have not even cast on for the projects I adore from the last issue...
Paula from Fiona Ellis
and Maire from Margaret Mills ...but I can keep dreaming!
